Updated by Alexia on

if you have enough budget, HD cameras don’t miss a thing. They produce a clear picture of fine details like faces, license plates, and visitors.

Amcrest UltraHD cameras are compact, powerful and clear. It streams high-quality 4K HD footage directly to your phone through an app. Its 16x zoom, clarity, and video quality are enough to see fine details on faces or license plates.

Amcrest HD security cameras use local storage to save footage. Its microSD card reduces the risk of online attacks without sacrificing wireless security.

Overall, the Amcrest UltraHD camera's image quality, storage, and privacy features make it the best HD Wi-Fi security camera in our review, and one worthy of your pick.

Amcrest UltraHD small dome ultra-clear security camera provides industry-leading 4K-level image clarity, and supports 16x digital zoom, which can clearly capture various indoor and outdoor environments. The protection capability of IP67 is also ahead of most security cameras in the industry, and it can reliably provide outdoor environment monitoring capabilities. At the same time, it supports local storage (no monthly fee) and cloud storage, so you can view video content at any time.

First of all, the field of view of UltraHD is very small, only 112°, which is far from the industry standard. It’s okay if you just need to focus on a certain area, otherwise, choose a camera with a wider field of view.

And there's no two-way talk, which isn't a big deal if you're not going to use it to talk to family or package people.

Overall, Amcrest UltraHD security cameras deliver clear images day or night with high-definition image quality. At the same time, its continuous recording and motion detection functions can protect your home very well.

The Arlo Ultra 2 is one of the best home security cameras we've tested, however, it's ridiculously expensive -- and you'll still have to pay for a subscription. But it's still worth buying for its 4k and wide-angle cameras.

Like other Arlo home security cameras, the Ultra 2 is weatherproof, and the Arlo Ultra 2 comes in a two-pack with a base station that connects the camera to your home's Wi-Fi network. You can watch the footage live from the app and interact with anyone on the other side via the two-way talk feature. The speaker and microphone adopt noise reduction technology, which can effectively reduce the external environmental noise.

The Arlo Ultra 2 was very effective at recognizing motion, and since we activated the Arlo Smart trial during our testing, each notification highlighted whether the source of the motion was an animal, human, or other source.

The biggest downside to the Arlo Ultra 2 is its price. If you want to add an Arlo camera but don't want to spend a lot of money, read our Arlo camera review to see if it better suits your needs.

3. Google Nest Cam (Battery): Best image

pro Pros con Cons
pro 6x digital zoom
pro Wide field of view
pro Quality design and aesthetic
con Facial recognition requires subscription

The Nest Cam (Battery) Outdoor Security Camera features 1080p video quality, 130° field of view, two-way audio, and boasts a powerful 6x digital zoom. This data index is enough to clearly see the characteristics of license plates and faces from the street.

The Nest Cam Battery brings something unique. It can be used indoors and outdoors and has smart features out of the box, with three hours of video history, clips, and smart motion detection being just some of the features that are available without a subscription. Though you'll still have to pay for longer cloud storage and facial recognition.

If you have a soft spot for your Nest Cam, don't worry. Nest Cam met all my expectations. It works seamlessly with the Google Home app, it also works with Amazon Alexa, and Nest Aware offers several nice feature upgrades. Still, $180 is a tough sell for me unless you're actually investing in Nest products in your home.

4. Logitech Circle View: Best for HomeKit

Best for HomeKit
View on Amazon
pro Pros con Cons
pro Works with HomeKit
pro Weatherproof
pro Sharp 1080p video
con No Alexa or Google Assistant support
con No local storage

The Logitech Circle View is an indoor/outdoor security camera that offers crisp 1080p video and several smart features. Its night vision is better for indoor security, but you can still see beyond 10 feet in the dark.

Logitech Circle View is compatible with Apple HomeKit Secure Video, so you can control it with Siri or sync with smart home devices. Safe Video also means you can store your safety footage on iCloud+ without subscribing to Logitech's cloud storage plan. But you'll need an iCloud account and a compatible Apple device as a hub to take advantage of most of it.

If you're an Apple HomeKit user looking to add indoor and outdoor monitoring to your smart home, the Logitech Circle View camera is for you.

5. Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus: Brightest floodlight

Brightest floodlight
View on Amazon
pro Pros con Cons
pro Motion activated camera and lights
pro Compatibility with Amazon Echo
con Subscription required for video history

The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is the perfect security for your home. Watch live from your phone wherever you are - whether you're in the store or sleeping. You can even talk to anyone at the door from your device.

The original Floodlight Cam, like the new Pro model, can continuously record 1080p video in HD-quality video and offers color night vision and person detection. It just lacks HDR, has a slightly quieter 105-decibel siren, offers lower-quality (but very good) two-way audio, and can't connect to faster 5-GHz WiFi networks.

FAQ

1080p or hd, which one is better?

Compared with 1080P and hd, the definition of 1080P is higher. HD refers to images and videos with a vertical resolution greater than 720P. The common HD is images and videos with a resolution of 1280x720, and the definition of 1080P is higher than that of HD.

What we commonly call hd is also called 720p, and 1080p is what we commonly call ultra-clear resolution, which is much higher than high-definition resolution, so if you want a better viewing experience, you can Choose 1080p video for better clarity.

Where should I install the HD camera?

No one says HD cameras are indoors or outdoors, but HD security cameras are great for outdoor use. Because you want to see things that are a little further away.

When you start installing home security cameras, we recommend placing the cameras on the front of your home, whether on the porch or near the garage. Most threats tend to come from the front of the house, so you can at least see who is loitering in front of your door.

Are Wi-Fi security cameras safe?

Not safe, WI-FI security camera is easy to be hacked and leak your privacy. Nest and Ring have come under fire for serious security breaches in the past. However, as time goes by, more and more companies will improve their privacy. But you can take the following precautions to reduce your risk:

  • It is best to turn off the camera when people are at home.
  • Password management is key, use responsible numeric and combination passwords, and change passwords every so often.
  • Don't settle for a cheap, low-quality smart camera.
  • Use mutual authentication when available.
