Updated by Alexia on

We researched and tested dozens of smart wireless security cameras to find the best features, video quality and cloud storage for your consideration.

We love the convenience and flexibility of wireless home security cameras that can do everything a wired camera can do. And with less hassle.

All things considered, we recommend the Reolink Argus 3 Pro camera, which features 2K video quality, a bright spotlight, and a wireless design. The Reolink Argus 3 Pro and Arlo Pro 4 are basically the same, but Reolink offers a smaller price tag.

Reolink vs. Arlo, Reolink offers local storage, solar panel add-ons, and a longer warranty, while Arlo has the advantage of a functional sports zone and better smart home compatibility. These small improvements can make a huge difference when the best wireless security cameras are so similar.

Find out which cameras on our list are truly wireless, which ones can be used both indoors and outdoors, and which smart features each offers in our comparison table. let's start.

How to Choose a Wireless Home Security Camera?

The first thing to understand is the meaning of wireless in a wireless camera.

Most people's first thought when looking for a wireless camera is simply that they don't want the hassle of hard wiring and don't mind plugging the camera into a power source. But because of the oddly constructed room factor the cameras are in places where the plugs won't work, so they're actually looking for wireless.

A wireless camera does not use wires to communicate with its camera storage device, but it can use a plug or batteries. In contrast, wireless cameras eschew any kind of cord or wires, including power cords.

After you determine the type of wireless camera you're looking for, you can start focusing on the features of the camera itself.

Features of the Best Wireless Cameras for Homes:

  • video quality
  • Detection (motion, sound, people)
  • area inspection
  • night vision
  • flashlight
  • siren
  • two-way audio
  • Weatherproof (suitable for outdoor security cameras)
  • Smart Home Compatibility

However, the above functions need to make trade-offs based on cost factors.

A good camera has high-definition video quality is the most basic (minimum 1080P), detection (motion, sound, people) function can better help you keep an eye on the dynamics of babies and pets, night vision and lighting are for convenience You can see better at night. The siren is to help you scare away unknown objects or intruders. Two-way audio lets you hear what's going on and talk to the person delivering the package if you install it outside your door.

If your camera is installed outdoors, you need to consider the weatherproof function. There are various levels of weatherproof (IP66, IP67, IP68). The higher the level, the higher the protection level. You can easily find out which cameras have enough Weatherproof: They are labeled as outdoor security cameras.

If you have a home security ecosystem, ideally your first priority is to choose a camera that is compatible with the products you already have.

The Reolink Argus 3 Pro has nearly the same performance as the Arlo Pro 4 at 75% the price of the Arlo Pro 4, which puts it at the top of the list of the best home surveillance cameras. While the Reolink's cloud storage isn't as good as the Arlo and Ring's, its microSD card slot gives it a local storage advantage. You don't need to pay to save videos from Reolink cameras.

It's also an affordable solar-powered surveillance camera, and you can buy a Reolink solar panel for around $30, which is almost half the price of Arlo and Ring solar panels.

The Reolink Argus 3 Pro version is recommended instead of the regular version of the Reolink Argus 3. With 2K video resolution, a larger battery, and support for 5GHz Wi-Fi, it's a strong competitor to the Arlo Pro 4. This camera runs on rechargeable batteries or solar power, so you have a lot of flexibility in where it is placed.

In the long-term battery test, it surpassed the Arlo Pro 4 in standby time, which is another highlight of Reolink. Local storage helps reduce the camera's Wi-Fi usage (which drains the battery), improving overall performance.

The camera lacks motion capture, has a field of view of only 122º, its Starlight Night Vision gives you a clear 33-foot image without additional ambient light, and is compatible with smart home platforms like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Overall, it's easy to set up and performs very well overall, so I highly recommend Reolink.

Reolink E1 Zoom

Reolink E1 Zoom(about $100)is a great indoor surveillance camera, Video quality easily beats the Argus Pro 3, but not wireless. For indoor use, it is well worth considering.

Wyze Cam v3 introduces outdoor features, built-in siren, improved night vision and higher frame rates for smoother video. While the v3 saw a small price increase shortly after its release, $35 is still a good price for such a good wireless camera.

The Wyze Cam v3 uses a starlight sensor with two types of infrared LEDs to produce color video at night. It's also one of the first Wyze cameras to record video at 20 frames per second (fps) during the day, making it smoother for video playback and live view than Wyze's older cameras.

Wyze offers up to 14 days of free cloud storage, and it can save small clips of 12 seconds. The Wyze Cam Plus paid cloud storage plan allows full video and is great for those who want better video recording without buying a microSD card. It's also one of the cheapest plans of any security camera company, costing just $2 a month or $15 for an annual plan.

The only thing we don't like is that you need a power cord, which limits placement options. To make matters worse, a special cord is required for outdoor operation.

Wyze Outdoor Cam Starter Bundle v2

The Wyze Outdoor Cam Starter Bundle v2, which is $45 more expensive than the Wyze Cam v3, includes a dock for the rechargeable battery.

Wyze Cam Pan v2

The Wyze Cam Pan v2 scans an entire room in three seconds using the automatic Pan Scan setting. Motion tracking on this small Wi-Fi camera is also cool -- if a child or pet runs across the room, the camera tracks all the movements. (No more arguing about who broke the furniture.)

(Netgear) Arlo Pro 4 high-definition wireless intelligent monitoring system, this is a home monitoring system that sells on Amazon in the United States, with over 10,000 praise. It's smarter than anything else in this article and works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, and Samsung SmartThings.

While it's not our top recommendation, it's without a doubt the strongest home monitoring system.

The Arlo Pro 4 is an excellent battery-powered camera with easy setup and great video quality. Its 2K video captures more detail than 1080p outdoor cameras, and thanks to infrared night vision and built-in spotlights, it records crystal-clear video at any time of day.

It's 100% wireless, it doesn't require a power cord, can be installed anywhere a ladder can reach, and the magnetic wall mount makes it easy to install.

The Arlo Pro 4 addresses the biggest drawback of the Arlo Pro 3, which no longer requires a dock. That makes it a relatively affordable option, although it's still more expensive than your average wireless camera.

There is a monthly fee of 2.99 for video cloud storage. The only downside to this home surveillance camera is that it's expensive.

Arlo, on a budget

Arlo also sells a more affordable wireless camera: the Arlo Essential Spotlight (about $130).

For the cheaper Arlo, skip the battery and weatherproofing in the Arlo Essential Indoor (about $100). It doesn't have the 2K video quality of the Pro 4, though.

4. Google Nest Cam (Battery) : Best smart detection

pro Quality design and aesthetics

con High price

The new Nest Cam is designed for indoor or outdoor use. It's rated IP54, which means that while it's weather-resistant, it's not waterproof. It comes in one color (snow, read: Google White), and you can attach it magnetically or with the included wall panels, screws, and anchors. It's battery-operated, but if you'd rather opt for a wired outdoor installation, you can buy a weatherproof power cord for $35.

Google estimates the battery will last between 1.5 and 7 months. I charged the camera to 100% and after 24 hours I was down to 97% on the default battery mode with auto power saver enabled. In those exact cases, that's about four months of battery. There are options in the Home app to adjust the frequency of event recording, video quality, and length of clips. There are also three battery modes to choose from if you don't want to pick and choose power settings.
The Google team provides the following battery life estimates:

  • Busy: About 1.5 months of battery life (about 20-25 events logged per day)
  • Typical: Approximately 3 months of battery life (approximately 9-12 events logged per day)
  • Quiet: Approximately 7 months of battery life (approximately 2-4 events per day)

Smart alerts that you can use for free include person, animal and vehicle detection, as well as motion zones. Using so many features without a monthly subscription is a big improvement. You'll still have to pay to use facial recognition, but we're not too excited about it. We especially love that you don't have to pay separately for each IP camera in your home.

5. Eufy Solo Indoor Cam C24 : Best indoor camera

Best indoor camera

pro Pros con Cons
pro Low price
pro Sharp 2K video
pro Local and cloud storage
pro Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant support
pro Intelligent motion detection

con Doesn't support IFTTT
con Some features not available in HomeKit
con Wired power cord

The Eufy Solo IndoorCam C24 shines as the best indoor camera for most people. This is thanks to the excellent 2K video quality and low price, which means you can buy multiple security cameras for the house. Its smart home integration is also a nice bonus.

The Eufy has a micro SD card slot for local video storage – just like the Wyze. This means you don't have to pay anything after purchasing a memory card. Eufy has a paid cloud storage plan, but it doesn't add anything to the camera other than storing your video remotely, which makes Nest, Arlo, Ring, and Wyze's extras and discounts all the more enticing.

Compared to our smart home pick, the Arlo, it's one of the best choices for smart home compatibility. We love that it's compatible with Apple HomeKit, which is far less of the Google Home and Alexa options for most home security cameras. (Eufy is also compatible with both platforms).

It's only used indoors, which makes it one of the few cameras in our lineup that aren't weatherproofed to monitor your yard. There's also no battery-powered option for this model, although Eufy makes some excellent battery-powered models, like the EufyCam 2C.

Overall, we think the Eufy Solo IndoorCam C24 is worth it for Apple HomeKit fans or if you want a budget indoor camera with great video quality.

6. Nest Doorbell (Battery): Best video doorbell

Best video doorbell

The Nest Doorbell (battery version) brings the smart motion detection and cloud storage we love from the Nest Cam to your front door. Despite its lower video resolution, the Nest Doorbell proves that efficient use of pixels can make all the difference. It somehow achieves some of the best-looking video quality in a doorbell camera.

The built-in battery means you can install the Nest Doorbell anywhere, but it also supports existing doorbell cords, so you don't need to bring it in to charge. With regular use, the battery can last up to 6 months on a charge, but that time drops depending on the weather and frequency of video recording.

The Nest Doorbell (battery) costs about $180, almost double the price of the Ring Video Doorbell. Still, we think its smart detection, affordable cloud storage, and attractive design are worth the money.

7. Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight : Best floodlight camera

Best floodlight camera
View on Amazon

The Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight is a solid floodlight camera that takes full advantage of Arlo's signature style – easy installation and an excellent outdoor camera.

Compared to a typical security camera, it turned up the brightness and illuminated a large area of the yard. This improves color video quality at night and provides a visual deterrent to potential intruders. Plus, it's nice to have an app-controlled floodlight when you need more light in your patio.

We like that the Arlo floodlight uses a rechargeable battery, which means it's easier to install than wired floodlight cameras from Eufy, Ring, and Wyze. If you're using the floodlight a lot, you'll drain the battery quickly, but at least Arlo sells an optional power cord. While this cable adds $50 to the price, it also puts out 3,000 lumens of maximum brightness, compared to just 2,000 lumens in battery-only mode.

Smart controls are also available via built-in speakers and microphones with live pass-through. There is also an Amazon cloud storage-based service that provides free access to motion- and sound-triggered footage from the past seven days. The mobile app is fully controlled, and you can check the safety of your home anywhere in the world.

The number of cameras is selected according to the needs of the family. I think it is enough to choose 3 cameras, one for the door, one for the indoor and one for the garden. If there is a separate garage, you can also add one. If you have a baby room at home, you can also add a separate camera.

8. Ring Stick Up Cam Battery : Best for Alexa

Best for Alexa

The Ring Stick Up Cam Battery is completely wireless, so you have a lot of flexibility in where you place it. At around $100, it's a pretty affordable security camera that you can use both indoors and out. It's the ideal wireless camera for the Alexa smart home, and doesn't yet support Google Assistant and HomeKit.

If you need a wireless outdoor camera but are on a budget, the Stick Up Cam Battery is a great option. Ring also has one of the most competitive cloud storage plans on the market, Ring Protect Basic for just $4 a month for 180 days of storage.

There have been reports of poor battery life on Ring products, and charging the Stick Up Cam is cumbersome because the battery needs to be removed each time. A solar panel attachment can be purchased so you don't need to remove the battery as often.

Best battery life
View on Amazon

The Blink Indoor is an attractive little camera that you can get for around $80. This makes it less expensive than most other home security cameras due to the indoor-only design.

Its battery life is up to two years, which is a lot longer than the competition. It does this by recording short clips and turning off Wi-Fi when the camera is inactive. Connecting to Alexa and Fire TV devices is easy, and you can even see live feeds on Alexa smart displays like the Echo Show.

If you connect a USB drive to the included sync module, the Blink Indoor has an option for local storage. There's also a paid cloud subscription (about $3 a month) to save videos, but it only stores about two hours of footage, which is tiny compared to most brands. Still, if you're looking for an affordable wireless indoor security camera to use with Alexa, the Blink Indoor is a great option.

This is a wireless battery powered HD security camera with infrared night vision to monitor your home 24 hours a day. Outdoor runs on two AA lithium batteries for up to two years. No wiring required, no professional installation required.

If you don't mind wired and wireless, the Blink Mini is a cheaper option at around $35.

10. ZOSI 8CH Security Camera System : Best Large Area Surveillance

Best Large Area Surveillance

We also tested a product according to the big environment. If your house is big enough, you might as well have an expandable outdoor monitoring system. This set of 4-channel and 8-channel monitoring systems from ZOSI may meet your needs. Companies, factories, shops, etc. can also use this monitoring system. This monitoring system also has 6000+ reviews on Amazon.

1080P high-definition camera, automatic infrared filter, can get high-definition images day and night. Expandable camera system, you can add cameras according to monitoring needs, built-in 1TB security-grade monitoring hard drive, support long continuous recording and USB backup. Smartphone control, you can check the security situation in front of and behind your house from anywhere in the world.

ZOSI is a surveillance brand in China, with Chinese-style manufacturing. In recent years, many big-name surveillance cameras in China have gone to the world and are very popular overseas, occupying most of the global surveillance market, and their reputation and quality have been recognized. For example, Hikvision, ANNKE, REOLINK, Hiseeu, etc., once this professional surveillance camera is installed, it can directly expose criminals.

Final word

Because there are so many wireless home security cameras to choose from on the market, each with different features and prices, it can be difficult to make a judgment call. We only select products with relatively high cost performance to improve for everyone to choose. The Reolink Argus 3 Pro remains an excellent choice, with 100% wireless operation (which is what this article is about), local storage, included solar panel and impressive video quality. We also recommend the Arlo Pro 4, Wyze Cam Pan and Wyze Cam v3.

No product in the world is absolutely perfect, it's not a perfect home security camera, and it's missing important features like motion detection compared to other competitors, but it's not as good as cloud-centric brands like Arlo and Ring. It's a refreshing change in comparison.

For more information on home security cameras, see the list of frequently asked questions below. If you're looking for home wireless security cameras to use with your security system, you can start with our recommendations for the best home security systems.

How much do home security cameras cost?

Low-end: $25~$50

In general, you can expect better features and stronger customer support from more expensive branded products. If you need to move frequently, you can choose well-known brands that cost between $25 and $50. But remember that most cheap cameras require a power cord. Except for the occasional sale from a reputable brand, don't buy any security camera under $25, as the quality isn't guaranteed at all.

Mid-range: around US$50 to US$100

There are a lot of camera options in this price range, and a large number of brands are vying for this market. They have come up with a series of options such as their own housekeeping skills (wired, wireless, indoor and outdoor, intelligent AI care) to attract consumers. And it does a pretty good job in terms of video quality, too.

High-end: $200 and up

We recommend keeping the cost under $200 per camera, unless you need special features like floodlights, 4K video quality, LTE cellular connectivity, or security monitoring. Unless you are a high level of security requirements to keep your family safe, it is not recommended to spend too much money.

Learn more in our guide to Security Camera Cost & Installation Fees.

How to choose between wired and wireless security cameras?

Generally speaking, we recommend that you choose a wired camera indoors and a wireless camera outdoors, and then a solar panel charger can solve the power problem very well.

While wired security camera installations are not as flexible as wireless ones, there are plenty of security outlets available indoors. In most cases, the installation process is equally simple, and the designers of the brand company have fully considered these factors. And, at a much more affordable price than wireless cameras wired, you can get excellent indoor coverage while focusing the bulk of your budget on outdoor cameras.

The wireless camera is perfect for the outdoors, not only for perfect mounting placement, but also when paired with a solar panel charger. You need to preserve battery life, but it's a small price to pay for a quick setup.

In some cases, it may make sense to use a wired camera outdoors. We recommend wired power for video doorbells and floodlight cameras. It's especially useful for charging batteries on wireless models.

Learn more in our guide to wired vs. wireless security cameras.

Where to Buy Home Security Cameras?

Video resolution A camera with a resolution of at least 1080p must be selected. Sharp images help you see details on faces and objects.

Field of view Field of view of at least 110º. Refers to the extent of the area that the camera sees through the lens. It will affect where you place it and the number of cameras you need to buy.

Two-way audio Two-way talk effectively turns your security camera into a walkie-talkie, communicating with the courier delivering the package where to place it.

Infrared night vision It can bring you some clarity in low light or when the light source is not enough, try to choose a camera with a night vision range of at least 15 feet.

Motion detection Send a notification to the phone APP when the camera observes motion. Choose a motion sensor camera with smart detection to flag people, animals, and vehicles for more effective motion alerts.

Need to buy a home security camera?

Absolutely! there are two ways to monitor your home:

Deterrent: Installing surveillance cameras in prominent locations can make burglars think twice about trying to enter your home.

Description: Security cameras can gather information about burglars and the items they take. That made enough evidence to file a police report and an insurance claim. At the same time, you can also restore things that you can't imagine.

You just have to consider how much it costs to buy the camera.

Can indoor cameras also function outside the window?

Indoor cameras cannot see outside after dark, so it is not recommended to use indoor cameras to look out of windows.

If you need to monitor both indoors and outdoors, our suggestion is to buy a combination of cameras for different scenes, you may be able to find an indoor camera (such as Wyze Cam v3), which can minimize the glare and reflection of the window.

Do security cameras need Wi-Fi?
  • Watch video live
  • Transfer locally stored video to the cloud
  • Control the camera through the mobile phone APP
  • Connect with smart home
  • Use the two-way audio function

Most modern cameras are Wi-Fi enabled, as installation is very simple, but there are some models that use a cable to connect to your internet router or security camera DVR.

If you have internet data usage caps, check how your security cameras can affect your monthly bill. You should also verify that your router can handle the extra devices and outputs.

Can I use surveillance cameras with my smart home devices?

The best security camera systems also help turn your house into a smart home. Security cameras often integrate with smart home hubs like Amazon Echo or Google Nest Audio.

This can give you a huge home security advantage -- the ability to remotely control lights, door locks, and security cameras. If you know programming, you can also enhance your device, and use your imagination to do some unexpected things
